Samples & Prototyping

What's the difference between a prototype and a production sample?

A prototype (blank or plain) lets you check structure, size and fit early on. A pre-production sample is printed with your final artwork so you can approve the exact look and feel before the full run.

Both a prototype and a production sample let you hold your packaging before scaling up, but they answer different questions and come at different stages of the project.

Prototypes check structure

A prototype is usually blank or plain and made early. Its job is to confirm the engineering — that the box is the right size, folds correctly and fits your product with the right clearances. It is about form and function, not final looks.

Production samples confirm the finished look

A pre-production sample is printed with your final artwork and finishes, made on the same materials as your full run. It is the last checkpoint to approve colour, print quality and feel before mass production begins.
